Smart Innovation Østfold (SIØ) is a Norwegian non-profit research organization developing an ecosystem for innovation based on research and innovation projects, cluster activities and support to startup companies. In only 7 years, Smart Innovation Østfold has initiated and participated in 20+ research and innovation projects, 7 of these EU projects, with a total revenue of 120 M€. These projects are in the area of SmartGrids and Smart Storage, Smart Cities and Communities and Digitalization, where the Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning and Cloud Computing are of core interest. Especial focus is at the digitalization of the energy sector, where new business models, new actors, new local energy markets and integrated energy systems are expected to change this sector radically within the next few years.

Smart Innovation Østfold is now expanding the research and innovation group with Researchers and Senior Researchers positions for ongoing and future national and international applied research.
We are looking for candidates who are passionate talents interested in contributing in internationally recognized scientific research in the field of:
- Smart Energy solutions
- Smart Cities, mobility and buildings
- Smart Grid security
- Digital Innovation
Job description and qualifications
We are looking for researchers at PhD or master’s levels, within the fields of Electric Power Engineering, Energy Economics, Business Innovation and Informatics. The successful applicant has experience that aligns with Electric Power Trading, Electric Power Market Design, Electric Power Systems Analysis, Smart Cities, eMobility, Cyber Security, Big Data Analytics / Machine Learning.
Additionally, research experience from and professional interest in the following areas will be valued: end user markets, consumer understanding, power sales towards end customers, flexibility, systematization, simulation, online payment systems, agent technology, EV, small scale wind, PV, battery technology, smart governance, cyber security, Big Data Analytics and business models. The ideal candidate has a track record of international research projects and is used to work in international innovation teams. You are not afraid of a hectic and inspiring work environment and capable of organizing and prioritizing tasks independently.
You should be well formulated in English, both in written communication and orally. Other languages, for example Norwegian, Swedish, German, Spanish or Mandarin would be an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Participate in Smart Innovation Østfold’s research and innovation projects
- Participate in application work for research and innovation projects with specific focus on EU / Horizon 2020 applications
- Develop and publish research articles in international scientific publications
