Smart Innovation Norway’s EU projects portrayed on high-profile platform:

“We are eager to share knowledge from our projects”

For the past few years, Smart Innovation Norway has landed several prestigious EU Horizon 2020 projects. In addition, most of these projects have been showcased through the European Commission’s BRIDGE initiative.

In February, three of Smart Innovation Norway’s Horizon 2020 projects, FLEXGRID, SENDER and E-LAND, were featured in the same BRIDGE newsletter – which is quite an achievement.

“For sure this is a successful case, but to me, it says more about the value we see in the BRIDGE collaboration and the effort we put in it,” comments Heidi Tuiskula (photo), Deputy Head of Research & Innovation at Smart Innovation Norway.

Addresses cross-cutting issues

BRIDGE is a European Commission initiative which unites Horizon 2020 Smart Grid, Energy Storage, Islands, and Digitalization projects to create a structured view of cross-cutting issues which are encountered in the demonstration projects and may constitute an obstacle to innovation.

“The BRIDGE process fosters continuous knowledge sharing amongst projects thus allowing them to deliver conclusions and recommendations about the future exploitation of the project results, with a single voice, through four different working groups representing the main areas of interest: data management, business models, regulations and Consumer and Citizen Engagement,” explains Tuiskula.

Smart Innovation Norway is both coordinating and participating in various projects, which have been invited to participate in BRIDGE.

“Through this opportunity, we have assigned experts to various working groups to share findings from our project as well as to learn from others. In addition, we dedicate special efforts to disseminate our project findings and activities in the BRIDGE newsletter, which is widely distributed among the research and innovation stakeholders,” says Tuiskula.

Joint message to decision-makers

Most of Smart Innovation Norway’s Horizon 2020 projects have been portrayed through BRIDGE due to their relevancy and importance for the European Commission, as well as due to the company’s active participation and networking efforts. Projects like EMPOWER, INVADE, E-LAND, SENDER, and FLEXGRID are a few of the successful contributors to BRIDGE.

“We are eager to share knowledge from our projects and BRIDGE is a great platform for us to do so. It also allows us to affect the policymakers and when you can collaborate with other projects, you can create a joint message and get it efficiently disseminated to various important decision-makers,” emphasizes Tuiskula.

She explains that Smart Innovation Norway’s strategy has a strong focus on tackling the climate challenge and supporting companies’ needs to transition in the digitized world. Through these activities, Smart Innovation Norway aims to create a sustainable impact by developing green society and new jobs.

“In the field of applied research, we focus strongly on the innovation management, business aspects and exploitation enhancement to expand the impact. We apply professional project management and pilot management expertise and we always put our ambitious targets beyond the project duration,” concludes Tuiskula.
